The Rundown: 8 Awesome Personal Use Weapons from Sci-fi

The Infinity Gauntlet, granting its wearer dominion over reality, is more powerful than any weapon mentioned on this list but is out of the running because I (perhaps arbitrarily) do no consider superhero to be a subgenre of sci-fi. That aside, here is the run down.

  1. Lightsaber – Star Wars: The lightsaber is a unique weapon used by the Jedi and Sith. It is a laser sword that can cut through almost anything and is powered by a kyber crystal.
  2. The Phaser – Star Trek: The phaser is a directed-energy weapon used by Starfleet and other species in the Star Trek universe. It can be used as both a stun and a lethal weapon, and its settings range from a wide beam to a focused beam that can penetrate solid objects.
  3. BFG 9000 – Doom: The BFG 9000 (Big Freaking Gun) is a powerful energy weapon that fires a green plasma ball capable of killing multiple enemies in a single shot. It is one of the most iconic weapons in the Doom series.
  4. The Noisy Cricket – Men in Black: The Noisy Cricket is a small weapon used by the Men in Black agents that can pack a powerful punch despite its size, capable of destroying entire buildings.
  5. The Zorg ZF-1 – The Fifth Element: The Zorg ZF-1 is a multi-purpose weapon used by the villain Zorg. It has various functions, including a flamethrower, ice-cold gas, and a net launcher.
  6. The M41A Pulse Rifle – Aliens: The M41A Pulse Rifle is a futuristic weapon used by the marines in the movie Aliens. It fires explosive rounds and is equipped with a grenade launcher.
  7. The Smart Gun – Aliens: The Smart Gun is another weapon used by the marines in Aliens. It is a fully automated weapon that tracks targets and can fire multiple rounds at once.
  8. The Neuralyzer – Men in Black: The Neuralyzer is a device used by the Men in Black agents to erase the memories of those who have witnessed alien activity. It is a small, handheld device that emits a bright flash of light that erases a person’s memories.
